This article analyzes some sociotechnical devices mobilized in the production of beef markets. From the description of distinct sociotechnical logics that coexist in the daily work of cattle raising, the text argues that the conversion of kilograms into arrobas and the registration of cattle in systems configure sociotechnical devices that structure beef markets. The unit of weight arrobas, although absent from the scales, appears in the calculation that transforms live cattle into carcasses. The production of data on animals links cattle, breeders and territories, establishing alliances and marketing channels.
