The sex ratio for each year is the Percentage of males among either all adult residents or all juvenile residents The percentage of adults in BTPD colony included yearlings--some of which were not sexually mature but which WOULD be sexually mature in the following mating season if they survived This graph includes data from 1989, when Jim Loughry captured all the adults, yearlings, and juveniles at my Rankin Ridge study colony at Wind Cave National Park while I was studying GPDs in my first year of research at Petrified Forest National Park. A similar analysis of sex ratio of BTPD adults vs BTPD weanlings in my first book (Hoogland 1995) did not include data from 1989 and was NOT statistically significant. All data come from single Rankin Ridge Colony at Wind Cave National Park I considered data from the same BTPD Rankin Ridge Colony in different years to be independent. I also considered data from the same BTPD in different years to be independent. These data checked TWO TIMES on 09 May 2022 Litter size = litter size at first emergence of offspring from their natal nursery-burrow = number of weanlings. Juvenile sex ratio = percentage of weanlings that were males = Sex ratio of weaned juveniles that were males Weanling = juvenile at first emergence from natal burrow-entrance These data used for Fig 24.3 in Hoogland 2026. Some weanlings disappeared soon after capture and marking, but I included these disappearances in my calculation of the juvenile sex ratio each May. For BTPD juvenile vs adult sex ratios in this EXCEL file and in Fig 24.3, the two variables did vary significantly, but the correlation was positive rather than the expected negative.
