Frequent Maneuver Designs and Automation: A Sustainable Approach for NISAR Orbit Maintenance

Sean Wagner

原始摘要(英文原文)· Original abstract
The NISAR mission launched on July 30, 2025 to explore Earth's most complex natural processes. NISAR's science orbit is defined within a tightly-constrained diamond corridor which is achieved through the frequent execution of maneuvers, up to five per week. This maneuver frequency enables a fixed standard workday schedule with simpler planning. This paper discusses how frequent maneuver designs and automation lead to a sustainable orbit maintenance strategy. This paper also presents NISAR's two-maneuver design approach for mitigating conjunction risks while minimizing excursions from the diamond, an approach that is automated and decoupled from routine orbit maintenance.
