This study explores the relationship between crime rates and socioeconomic inequality in urban India, focusing on factors such as income disparity, education access, employment opportunities, and urbanization. It analyzes how these elements influence different forms of crime, including violent, property, and white-collar crimes, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The research also examines the role of social cohesion, community policing, and intervention programs in reducing crime linked to inequality. It highlights that crime disrupts societal peace and causes psychological distress, emphasizing the need for effective prevention strategies. Crime is defined as an act that violates the law and harms others, warranting state intervention and punishment. The study incorporates the concept of rewards and costs associated with legal and illegal activities. Empirical findings suggest a positive link between wealth inequality and certain property crimes, supported by prior research examining economic influences on crime over time.
