The development of Polish cities is accompanied by changes in their transport systems. Invariably, this means creating new transport lines and strengthening the existing ones. One of the challenges today remains to adapt the transport offer to current needs. The constant pressure to cut costs, resulting from the financial constraints of the cities, combined with the shortage of personnel driving the vehicles makes us think intensively about the possibility of putting vehicles into service for longer than before. The article presents considerations on this subject. The research problem is the possibility of putting 45-meter trams into operation in Poznan. The aim of the article is to analyze needs and possibilities: to what extent the tram infrastructure of Poznan is prepared for the operation of longer than standard trams, with a length of 45 meters. The text presents the analysis: where and under what circumstances the exploitation of such a camp would be possible. The considerations concern Poznan, but they are universal – other cities, not only Polish ones, are also facing similar problems.
