Introduction

Education has been indelibly changed by the impact of the global pandemic of 2020. Or has it? It may be more accurate to consider how the pandemic amplified the cracks and fissures of fragile or already broken education systems, releasing an avalanche of awareness and long overdue realizations that education has reached a brittle edge. From the call for reimagining, to the prioritizing of well-being, to memes and placards about Maslow and Bloom, human-centered approaches pushed forward through the noise. Enter the UNESCO (2021) report, “Reimagining our futures together: a new social contract for education,” with a vision for a collaborative transformation of education. The report does not intend to write a definitive blueprint document but rather an open visioning document. However, it still shows the higher expectation of building new cooperative and inclusive educational ecosystems by reinventing architecture, curriculum, and pedagogy.
