Challenging Epistemic Injustice through More Inclusive Discourse

This chapter explores the issue of epistemic injustice from a service user/disabled person&s;s perspective. It outlines how such epistemic injustice discourse developed and seeks to relate it to preceding experientially led movements. This chapter also considers how the epistemic injustice and service user discourses have been mutually supportive of one another, while also outlining the ways in which some excluding factors have worked against maximizing the impact of the challenge to epistemic injustice. By examining the history of related and earlier developments from the disabled people&s;s and psychiatric system survivor movements, and using a case study, this chapter considers how the epistemic injustice narrative may be more effectively carried forward in an inclusive way.
