An increasing number of students enter universities with specific learning difficulties (SLDs). In this systematic narrative review, we examine two areas of SLDs that university lecturers are most likely to encounter: reading and mathematics difficulties. We conclude that there are reliable and cost-effective ways of identifying students with SLD and providing them with the support they need. While students with SLD can experience both academic and mental health challenges and take longer to complete their program, most will graduate successfully and move on to employment or graduate studies.
