Subgingival delivery of Gengigel and NBF gel as adjuncts to SRP resulted in significant clinical benefits in chronic periodontitis management. Gengigel demonstrated a slight advantage in long-term reduction of inflammation and pocket depth.
AIM: To evaluate and compare the clinical effectiveness of subgingivally delivered Gengigel and nanobio fusion (NBF) gel as adjuncts to scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with chronic periodontitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This randomized controlled clinical trial included patients aged 18-65 years diagnosed with chronic periodontitis and presenting with periodontal pockets measuring ≥5 mm and ≤10 mm. Ninety-nine periodontal sites were randomly allocated into three groups: Group A (SRP alone), Group B (SRP with subgingival Gengigel), and Group C (SRP with subgingival NBF gel). Clinical parameters including plaque index, modified sulcular bleeding index, probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level were recorded at baseline, 15 days, and 3 months. Statistical analysis was performed to assess intra- and intergroup differences.
RESULTS: All three groups demonstrated statistically significant improvement in clinical parameters from baseline to 3 months (P < 0.01). Intergroup analysis showed that both adjunctive therapy groups exhibited superior outcomes compared to SRP alone. Group B demonstrated greater and sustained reduction in gingival bleeding and PPD at 3 months, whereas Group C showed early clinical improvements.
CONCLUSION: Subgingival delivery of Gengigel and NBF gel as adjuncts to SRP resulted in significant clinical benefits in chronic periodontitis management. Gengigel demonstrated a slight advantage in long-term reduction of inflammation and pocket depth.
