Primary Ovarian Carcinoid Tumor in a Postmenopausal Woman.

Primary ovarian carcinoid tumors are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms, usually presenting as asymptomatic pelvic masses in perimenopausal or postmenopausal women. We report a 55-year-old woman with lower abdominal pain and an enlarging pelvic mass, initially suspected as a uterine fibroid. Intraoperatively, a solid, highly vascular left ovarian mass was identified. A diagnosis of primary ovarian neuroendocrine tumor was established based on histopathology and immunohistochemistry. This case underscores the diagnostic challenge of ovarian masses in postmenopausal women and highlights the importance of considering rare tumors in the differential diagnosis.
