The effect of chempuzzle media on the discovery learning model toward students' learning outcomes class XI MIPA SMA negeri 4 maros (study on the subject matter of hydrocarbon compounds).

BACKGROUND: Students' learning outcomes on hydrocarbon compound material are often suboptimal due to low interest and lack of active participation in the learning process. Innovations, such as the use of educational game media, offer an alternative to improve conceptual understanding. This study is a quasi-experimental research aimed at determining the effect of chempuzzle media within the discovery learning model on the learning outcomes of grade XI MIPA students at SMA Negeri 4 Maros on hydrocarbon compound topics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This research is a quasi-experiment using a posttest only control group design. The population consists of grade XI MIPA students at SMA Negeri 4 Maros, totaling seven classes. Sampling was conducted randomly, selecting class XI MIPA 5 as the experimental group and XI MIPA 6 as the control group. These classes were chosen because students at this level begin to study more complex chemistry topics, such as hydrocarbon compounds. RESULTS: Descriptive analysis showed that the average learning outcomes of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. Inferential statistical analysis was then conducted, preceded by normality and homogeneity tests. The results confirmed that data from both groups came from homogeneous populations. CONCLUSION: Based on the data analysis, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This indicates a significant effect of using chempuzzle media within the discovery learning model on students' learning outcomes. The media proved more effective than conventional methods as it supports concept building through hands-on experience, critical thinking, collaboration, and contextual learning. Students became more active, motivated, and fully engaged in the learning process.
