The Correlation between Parental Verbal Abuse and Teenager Aggressive Behavior at SMK Kesehatan Bakti Nusantara Gorontalo

Aggressive behavior often manifests as an emotional response to personal setbacks, proven by deliberate acts of harm towards individuals or objects through words or deeds. One contributing factor to teenagers' aggressive behavior is parental propensity for verbal abuse. This study aims to investigate the correlation between parental verbal abuse and aggressive behavior among teenagers at SMK Kesehatan Bakti Nusantara Gorontalo. This study was a quantitative study conducted using a Cross-Sectional research design. Furthermore, this study employed Purposive Sampling involving 50 teenagers as respondents (students) from SMK Kesehatan Bakti Nusantara Gorontalo. Data analysis utilized the Pearson Correlation test. The findings indicate that the majority of teenagers at SMK Kesehatan Bakti Nusantara Gorontalo experience moderate levels of parental verbal abuse, comprising 28 respondents (56%), while the majority of teenagers' aggressive behavior falls within the moderate category, with 26 respondents (52%). The Pearson Correlation test results show a correlation between parental verbal abuse and aggressive behavior among teenagers at SMK Kesehatan Bakti Nusantara Gorontalo. A correlation coefficient value of 0.461 indicates a moderate positive correlation, where parental verbal abuse increases and teenagers' aggressive behavior also escalates. Therefore, it is suggested that parents cease such behavior, as it can influence their children's propensity for aggression.
