This research aims to understand how the experience with short films in mathematics classes contributes to the understanding/constitution of the act of projecting life for students in the Countryside Education Licentiate Degree (CELD) - Natural Sciences. Therefore, we consider mathematics as a possible support for reflection on act of projecting life experienced with Cinema (understood as a pedagogical, cultural, and political technology). Thus, in a class of “Mathematics for the Education of Countryside Educators: Natural Sciences” lessons were given that experienced animated short films in five different moments. In this article, we focus on the moment that discussed belonging, community, and prime factorization. Our results show that the experience with short films in mathematics classes proved to be a movement of (self)-education through mathematics. It's an education of the teaching profession in needing to wait and pay attention, while the self-education of students articulates their filmic perceptions with an understanding of "I am because we are" based on the Ubuntu philosophy. In other words, both groups projected their lives based on mathematics, understanding the importance of collectivity.
