Conclusions: Results suggested elevation of heavy metals PB, Cd levels and GST activity in case group may be significantly influence by the GSTT1 null genotyping, indicating a potential role in reduce detoxification capacity and increase health risk in exposed worker.
OBJECTIVE: Aim: To evaluated efficiency of heavy metals detoxification by GST level and null genotypes of GST in car repairing workshops workers.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: Samples included 32 male workers with an average age 34 year. Level of heavy metals (Cd and Pb) and GST were measured, GSTT1 and GSTM1 null genotyping were determined by PCR.
RESULTS: Results: significant association were found between socidemographic variables. Significant higher concentration of Pb, Cd and GST in case group compared to control group p<0.05, no-significant effect of disease present or smoking in Pb, Cd and GST levels, in the case group, significant inverse correlation in age with Cd. A Significant inverse association between Cd and Pb in case group but in control group, no significant correlation among other variables. Linear regression of GST level on Pb and Cd showed non-sig effect (b=0.041, p=0.884 of Cd and b=-0.957, p=0.973 of Pb) in case group, significant association of GSTT1 null genotyping (OR=34.7561, CI95%=1.9448 to 621.1255 at p=0.0159) with risk of toxicity, the null of GSTT1 also showed sig significant impact on Pb and Cd levels in the case group (p= 0.000 and 0.006 respectively), while GSTM1 showed non -significant.
CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Results suggested elevation of heavy metals PB, Cd levels and GST activity in case group may be significantly influence by the GSTT1 null genotyping, indicating a potential role in reduce detoxification capacity and increase health risk in exposed worker.
