Clinical Sociology of Activity :  A Practical Theory of a Social Change and Subjectivation

This article describes the approach used in the clinical sociology of activity (CSA). This practical theory is founded on the analysis of practice, and proposes conceptual tools to describe, explain and understand sociopsychological phenomena, the aim being transformation. The theory emerged in France in the early 21st century, based on a dual intellectual French legacy : the clinical sociology on the one hand, and multidisciplinary theories of activity (e.g. “real work”), on the other. The article outlines the SCA theory with regards to action, and the dialectical subjectivation process. It clarifies its stance, its epistemological foundations and clinical methods.
