Arctic project competitiveness components: fish and seafood extraction and production

This study examines current issues related to the development of an effective system for promoting competition in the fishing industry in Russia’s Arctic zone. Through the implementation of key components of fisheries management - fish harvesting (catching) and production of fish and seafood. An analysis of the development of authorized quotas in the Northern Fisheries Basin in 2025 revealed a change in the catch structure: the share of cod in the total catch decreased to 50.5%, compared to 61% the previous year; the share of haddock and Atlantic herring increased. The study identifies the conditions for implementing federal and national projects aimed at strategically developing the industry and meeting the needs of the Arctic region’s population with a variety of fish products. It was revealed that indicators of production of goods and services and the financial condition of organizations by types of economic activity - fishing and fish farming - determine a more stable competitive position of the fishing industry in the Arctic zone of Russia in relation to other areas of activity significant for the region.
