The intensive development of global commercial salmon farming has led to the emergence of a number of technologies, among which the use of cleaner fish to combat parasitic infestations stands out. Such a type of fish in mariculture has become the lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus , whose individuals, when grown together, tend to eat ectoparasitic crustaceans from the body surface of Atlantic salmon ( Salmo salar ). This review examines the achievements of the foreign fisheries sector in the cultivation of cleaner lumpfish and its further joint maintenance with Atlantic salmon in marine cages. An indicative indicator of the effectiveness of the introduction of such biotechnology into commercial salmon farming has been obtained. The recommended production volume of lumpfish for Russian mariculture in the Kola North has been calculated. It is pointed out that it is necessary to take into account climate changes in this Arctic region and choose a way to implement this method in the current geopolitical conditions.
