Correlation between language disorders and birth weight

Language development is essential for communication, understanding, and expressing ideas; communication disorders typically manifest during the preschool years. This non-experimental, exploratory, and observational study aimed to analyze the relationship between language disorders and birth weight in 1,047 children aged 2 to 5 years and 11 months treated at the Regional Center for Child Development [CEREDI] in Durango. The results showed a higher prevalence of simple language delay [43.73%] , followed by anarthric language delay [26.14%] , autism spectrum disorder [7.51%] , aphasic language delay [0.9%] , and auditory language delay [0.6%] . In addition, a weak positive correlation was identified between low birth weight and language disorders [P = 0.05, R = 0.03] , highlighting prematurity as a factor associated with a higher probability of language difficulties.
