This experimental course is designed for senior undergraduate students and employs a strawberry detection task in real agricultural scenarios as the experimental vehicle to construct a student-centered comprehensive innovative teaching case. The course curriculum encompasses the complete research workflow, including literature review, dataset collection and annotation, software and hardware environment configuration, model training and improvement, design of ablation and comparative experiments, result analysis, and project presentation. Throughout the instructional process, the instructor introduces inquiry-based learning tasks to guide students in independently formulating hypotheses, designing improvement strategies, and conducting systematic comparative experiments, thereby cultivating their critical thinking and innovative practical abilities. A comprehensive assessment system is designed for this course, integrating formative, summative, and collaborative evaluation approaches to holistically measure student learning achievements in knowledge application, engineering practice, innovative inquiry, and team collaboration. Feedback collected through questionnaires and individual interviews upon course completion indicated that the majority of students reported that the use of real agricultural scenarios enhanced their engagement and interest, that the inquiry-based tasks effectively stimulated innovative thinking, and that the group collaboration and role-rotation mechanism improved their communication skills and sense of responsibility. This experimental course has demonstrated significant effectiveness in stimulating students’ research interest and cultivating their innovative practical abilities, thereby laying a solid practical foundation for their subsequent graduation projects, research endeavors, and career development.
