A new approach for obtaining a biomatrix was used for the first time that includes the decellularization of xenopericardium using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) followed by genipine single-stage stabilization of purified xenopericardium. The stabilization of the pericardium was accompanied by the application of chitosan hydrogel coatings with Ag nanoparticles from carbonic acid solutions under high pressure. The matrices were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, optical microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the resulting collagen matrices have excellent mechanical and strength properties, as well as pronounced antimicrobial activity against S. aureus.
