This article analyzes the incorporation of a scientific approach in the journalistic coverage of the 2023 Pan American Games, with the aim of understanding how the Chilean media integrated scientific disciplines into sports reporting.Based on a corpus of 26 news articles, the main scientific disciplines associated with the coverage, the types of sources used, and the key messages conveyed were identified. The results show that medicine received the most attention, followed by biomechanics and the environment content. There was also a predominance of academic sources, suggesting an effort to lend depth to the narrative. The analysis allowed the content to be grouped into three thematic areas: science applied to athlete well-being; technological and environmental impact of the event; social benefits of science. It is concluded that sports journalism with a scientific focus can contribute to the field by diversifying the media agenda and strengthening the link between science and sports as a strategy for reaching a broad audience.
