The population growth of Karawang Regency increases the use of drinking water, this has an impact on increasing domestic wastewater generation. Wastewater with high concentrations of pollutants can harm the environment. Wastewater treatment is necessary to ensure its safety when received by receiving water bodies. Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) are a technology for treating wastewater, on the other hand WWTPs also contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study aims to assess the estimated amount of GHG emissions using the 2019 IPCC guidelines with the tier one method. There are five WWTPs still actively operating in Karawang Regency in 2025, namely Sindangmukti Village, Sampalan Village, Rengasdengklok Selatan Village, Kalangsari Village, and Tanjungpura Village. All communal domestic WWTPs in Karawang Regency use Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) technology with a service capacity of 50 households. ABR is a biological treatment with an anaerobic process that produces GHG, namely CH4 gas. GHG with uncontrolled amounts causes global warming and climate change, so initial mitigation steps are needed by calculating the amount of GHG. Currently, there is no inventory of GHG emissions from communal domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Karawang Regency. CH4 emissions from communal domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Karawang Regency are estimated at 0.22 Gg CO2e/year in 2025.
