This study examines the utilization of in Saikazaki area, Wakayama City. Based on Yoshisaka’s (1986) living typology, residential types for this study were defined. Two patterns were identified. In the “use-first” pattern, residences are selected to suit a specific purpose; they are located in accessible areas, often used for business or social activities, and are widely open. In the “space-first” pattern, the purpose of use emerges later; residences are located near , serve various functions, and have limited accessibility. Using enables residents to enhance their living conditions and preserve their residential environment.
