This chapter examines art–science-technology interactions and epistemic diversity in a worldshaped by technological progress and scientific knowledge, which are deeply intertwined. Whiletechnology is often understood as the use and development of instruments, a means to an end, it isnot only something we use; it also shapes how we understand and engage with reality. In thistechnological ‘revealing’ of reality, the world increasingly presents itself as measurable,controllable, and exploitable: as a resource. This chapter refers to this instrumentalization of realityas technical thinking.In this chapter, we first show that within artistic practice, the use of technology does not necessarilylead to technical thinking. When engaged within artistic practice, it can open non-technical,contemplative ways of relating to the world. The chapter then reverses this perspective by showingthat technical thinking can also operate without visible machines, particularly through logocentriclanguage in scientific practice, where articulation and description function as a technology ofordering and control and become conditions for what counts as knowledge.Ultimately, the chapter asks how artistic and other ways of knowing can enter scientific contextswithout being assimilated into technical thinking, and reflects on the conditions for sustainingepistemic diversity in contemporary knowledge institutions.
