Proxies of Natural and Dynamical Variability for the use in Total Column Ozone Trend Studies

原始摘要(英文原文)· Original abstract
This dataset provides monthly mean anomaly (Jan 1980-Dec 2025) of derived proxies for dynamical and natural variability for use as explanatory variables in multi-linear regression models in total column ozone trend studies. Trend studies that seek to derive the trend attributable to the reduction in ozone-depleting substances after the Montreal Protocol and its amendments need to account for the ozone variability attributable to other dynamical and natural processes. This dataset, which will be used in such a trend study of Total Column Ozone from the long-term NOAA Total Column Ozone records, makes available several proxies that represent these processes. This includes global proxies of the solar cycle, the quasi-biennial oscillation, El Niño-Southern Oscillation, Arctic Oscillation, the Brewer-Dobson Circulation, and the Antarctic Oscillation. Additionally, short-term variability is modeled through a proxy called the integrated equivalent latitude calculated for each NOAA long-term ozone monitoring station. Finally, a latitudinally resolved aerosol proxy is published here. The resulting dataset offers a way to fit dynamical and natural processes in total column ozone variability so that the resulting derived trend in the multi-linear regression is attributable to the decline in ozone-depleting substances as a result of the international regulations.
