The Asteraceae family member Calendula officinalis (Calendula) is commonly referred to as English marigold or pot marigold. For generations, traditional medicine has utilized the aromatic herb marigold. To better understand the various biological activities and modes of action of the calendula species, they have been highlighted. This plant is rich in quinines, volatile oils, sterols and steroids, amino acids, flavonoids, glycosides, and carotenoids. In medicine, calendula oil is still used as an antitumor and wound-healing agent. Among herbal remedies, calendula tincture or suspension formulation is used to calm sensitive areas, curb bleeding, lessen inflammation, and cure acne locally. In this review, it has been demonstrated that the pure chemical extracted from the calendula plant has several pharmacological qualities, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oedematous, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-HIV, and antiviral activity, as well as wound healing and immunostimulant abilities. It has anticytotoxic, hepatoprotective, and spasmolytic qualities. It also affects the levels of proinflammatory cytokines. The various factors include tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-6, interferons (IFN)-gamma, acute phase protein, and C-reactive protein. Until recently, C. officinalis has been used particularly to lessen the negative effects of radiation therapy, but it may have a significant future impact on the development of new cancer treatment options. In order to address the gaps in our current understanding of Calendula officinalis and to highlight its potential uses as a medicinal agent, this review examined the plant's organoleptic, in-vitro, and in-vivo pharmacological activities as well as its description, cultivation, and active chemical constituents.
