In the educational debate, there are multiple actors who contribute to establishing the issues at stake as well as the frames of reference, thereby defining to some extent the collective imagination regarding education. The aims of this article are 1) to determine the profile of the people participating in the educational debate and 2) to assess the extent to which teachers' voices are present in the public sphere. To achieve this, all articles on education published during the year 2023 in the two most widely read Spanish newspapers are selected. After a process of refinement, the documentary corpus consists of 461 articles containing a total of 1,401 mentions. The study shows that teachers are responsible for less than one-third of the interventions on education, primarily due to the existence of a broad range of participants and profiles. Within the teaching profession, there are particularly underrepresented subgroups, considering factors such as Autonomous Community, gender, or professional category. The reasons why certain groups, including the teaching profession, are underrepresented may be related to teacher identity, gender roles, the lack of legitimate discourse dispute mechanisms, or the historical difficulty of mediating the teaching profession’s work.
