Migration in Contexts of Inequality: Challenges in Access to Essential Rights and Services

Social inequalities associated with migratory phenomena reveal the asymmetries of power, resources, and opportunities to which migrants are subjected. In Portugal, the increase in human mobility, driven by the search for new opportunities, has posed multiple challenges in the field of integration, consequently generating situations of inequality and social vulnerability. In this context, it becomes essential to understand the constraints migrants face in accessing essential services such as health care, housing, and education, as well as to reflect on the role of social workers in the design of public policies and in the promotion of human rights. This study is developed through a theoretical and reflective approach, supported by the analysis of relevant scientific literature for understanding the phenomenon under study.
