Impact of anthropogenic activities on the physicochemical quality and chlorophyll a biomass of peri-urban rivers (Anguededou and Djibi Rivers, Côte d’Ivoire)

Peri-urban rivers are increasingly threatened by rapid urbanization, untreated domestic and industrial wastewater discharge, and agricultural runoff, leading to significant deterioration of water quality and ecosystem functioning.This study evaluated the impact of anthropogenic activities on the physicochemical characteristics, chlorophyll a biomass, and organic pollution status of the Anguededou and Djibi rivers in Côte d'Ivoire.Eight sampling campaigns were conducted from August 2019 to June 2020 at ten sampling stations (five per river) during both rainy and dry seasons.Physicochemical parameters were measured using standard field and laboratory methods, chlorophyll a was quantified using the Lorenzen spectrophotometric method, and the Organic Pollution Index (OPI) was calculated to assess water quality.Spatio-seasonal variations were analyzed using Impact of …
