Purpose: This study explored military service experiences of adults who stutter using a qualitative research approach.Methods: Six Korean adults who stutter participated in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.Results: Participants experienced significant communication challenges and anticipatory anxiety in hierarchical military communication contexts. Additionally, they reported negative interpersonal experiences, social withdrawal, and negative self-perception. Various coping strategies were identified: avoidance, speech control, repetitive practice, and direct exposure to speaking situations. They also emphasized the need for practical support and improved awareness of stuttering in military organizations.Conclusion: The findings suggest that military service experiences of adults who stutter involve communication and psychosocial challenges shaped by their military communication environment. Overall, this study highlights the significance of supportive communication and social awareness in military settings.
