"This dataset presents soil particle images corresponding to sieve-based Particle Size Distribution (PSD) data obtained from crusher sand collected from the laboratory stock of the Geotechnical Laboratory, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, Maharashtra, India. A bulk sample of 3000 grams was processed using mechanical sieve analysis with ASTM\/ISO standard sieves (2.36 mm to 0.075 mm) under mechanical vibration for 15 minutes in six stages of 500 grams each. Representative fractions from each sieve were used for multi-scale image acquisition. 1575 smartphone images were captured using an iPhone 15 Pro Max under ambient indoor lighting at three camera heights (15 cm, 30 cm and 45 cm), incorporating repeated disturbance cycles to ensure variability in particle exposure. In addition, 1350 microscopic images were acquired from sub-sampled sieve fractions using an Olympus CKX53 inverted microscope at 4x, 10x and 20x magnifications. The dataset is intended to support image-based granulometry, machine learning, and computer vision applications for soil particle characterization. Since the dataset represents crusher sand obtained from a single source, application to other soil types or engineered granular materials requires further validation."
