Empowering Allied Health Research Roles in Hospital Systems: The Role of an Allied Health Scientist in a Pediatric Healthcare System.

This commentary describes the implementation and impact of the Allied Health Scientist role within a pediatric hospital system. A dedicated Allied Health Scientist can support allied health professionals at both the individual and system level by providing mentorship, building research capacity, and fostering a culture of evidence-based practice. To evaluate the role's impact within the institution, a retrospective review of internal and external allied health projects and dissemination activities from 2018 to 2024 was undertaken. Findings highlight how the integration of this role has positively influenced research engagement and scholarly output among allied health professionals, including notable growth in symposium participation, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications, alongside strong clinician-reported mentorship outcomes. By offering dedicated mentorship and infrastructure to support project development, the Allied Health Scientist has helped address common barriers such as limited time, funding, and research experience. The model may serve as a replicable strategy for advancing allied health scholarship across other healthcare systems.
