Femoral Shaft Nonunion in Adult Type 3 Osteogenesis Imperfecta Managed With Patient-Specific 3-Dimensional Planning: A Case Report.

CASE: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) predisposes patients to fractures and nonunion due to poor bone quality and deformity. We report successful management of femoral shaft nonunion using patient-specific 3-dimensional (3D) planning in a patient with OI. A 30-year-old woman with type 3 OI presented with an atraumatic femoral fracture progressing to nonunion. There was a severe deformity with narrow canal that complicated fixation. Preoperative 3D modelling guided corrective osteotomy and intramedullary fixation. She achieved pain resolution, functional recovery, and radiographic union at 12 months postoperatively. CONCLUSION: Patient-specific 3D planning facilitates surgical decision-making and enables successful reconstruction in complex OI nonunion cases.
