Applications of Artificial Intelligence in HIV Viral Load Monitoring and Management: A Scoping Review Protocol

Aim The aim of this scoping review is to map the extent, range and characteristics of existing literature on the use of artificial intelligence in HIV viral-load testing, monitoring, interpretation and management. Primary objective The primary objective is to identify and describe how artificial-intelligence applications have been developed, validated, evaluated or implemented in activities directly related to HIV viral load. Secondary objectives The secondary objectives are to: (1) classify the purposes for which artificial intelligence has been used in relation to HIV viral load; (2) describe the populations, settings, data sources and artificial-intelligence methods represented; (3) examine how applications have been developed, validated and evaluated; (4) map reported performance, explainability, fairness, clinical utility and implementation considerations; and (5) identify methodological, geographic and implementation gaps.
