Generative AI and Achievement Emotions in Education: A Systematic Review

This registration contains the protocol for a PRISMA 2020 systematic review of empirical research on students' achievement emotions in learning contexts supported by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). Anchored in Pekrun's control-value theory (CVT), the review synthesizes peer-reviewed quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies published from November 2022 onward. The primary synthesis is a structured narrative synthesis reported per the SWiM guideline, organised by the CVT chain (GenAI design feature / appraisal, emotion, process / outcome), with harvest plots and a CVT evidence map; a meta-analytic sub-synthesis is conducted only where at least three comparable studies exist within the same GenAI use function. Two binding design commitments apply throughout: the review is emotion-centred (the unit of synthesis is the achievement emotion), and GenAI use is disaggregated by use function, so findings are not averaged across different types of GenAI use. The registration follows a tiered commitment structure: binding commitments, pre-specified conditional decision rules, and declared exploratory latitude. Review materials (search logs, screening decisions, the completed extraction workbook, and analysis scripts) will be deposited in the linked OSF project over the course of the review.
