Cultivating the Human Being: Indigenous Methodologies and the Development of Human Capacities examines Indigenous methodologies as intentional developmental architectures that cultivate the human capacities necessary for wisdom, discernment, reciprocity, belonging, ecological awareness, and human flourishing. Drawing upon decades of participatory learning with Indigenous Elders and interdisciplinary scholarship, the paper proposes the Architecture of Human Coherence as a conceptual framework for understanding how Indigenous pedagogies function as integrated systems of human development. Rather than treating ceremony, storytelling, Elder-guided learning, relationship with the land, community participation, reciprocity, and observation as isolated cultural practices, the paper argues that these methodologies collectively cultivate identifiable human capacities through lived participation and relational learning. The framework offers an interdisciplinary contribution to educational philosophy, Indigenous methodologies, developmental theory, leadership studies, and whole-person education by reframing education as the intentional cultivation of the human being rather than the transmission of knowledge alone. As Paper XV in the Architecture of Human Coherence Research Series, this publication extends previous theoretical work by articulating Indigenous methodologies as developmental architectures that contribute to coherent human development, ethical leadership, community resilience, and lifelong human flourishing.
