From Security to Global Ecological Solidarity: Environmental Concerns and Anarchism

This article critiques the treatment of environmental concerns through the lens of security and offers an anarchist perspective on the concept of security and ecological issues. It argues for a shift from security-focused approaches to solidarity-based endeavours and introduces Global Ecological Solidarity (GES) as an alternative framework for thinking and acting. GES functions as a normative and analytical alternative to concepts such as environmental, climate, and ecological security, replacing security’s logic of exception with a non-hierarchical and inclusive orientation. Grounded in the anarchist thought of Kropotkin, Reclus, and Bookchin, GES is also proposed as a research programme on transnational, non-state solidarities based on ecological values.
