Currently, the parameters of the external nose and the width of the piriform aperture are known. However, there is no data on their relationship with each other. OBJECTIVE: To identify the relationship between the size and shape of the external nose and the width of the piriform aperture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the course of the work on the basis of the Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko, 106 people (45 men and 61 women from 18 to 65 years old) were examined for the period from 2022 to 2024, whose piriform aperture width was compared with the parameters of the external nose using correlation analysis methods. The relationship was determined using the Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The presence of a hump in all study groups has a statistically significant negative correlation with the width of the piriform aperture. The value of the nasal index in all study groups directly correlates with the width of the piriform aperture. The width of the external nose and the pyriform aperture are interrelated when measuring smaller noses, and the projection and length of the nose do not affect the size of the piriform aperture. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the fact that the studied correlation coefficients have a small value, which corresponds to a moderate or weak correlation strength, the obtained results can help to identify the narrowness of the pyriform aperture according to the shape and specified parameters of the external nose, which must be taken into account when planning operations on the piriform aperture.
