Isolation, Purification, and Characterization of Leptophages.

Only the three leptophages LE1, LE3, and LE4 or bacteriophages of leptospires, are known to date. However, numerous prophages have been found in this genus, particularly in the genomes of pathogenic species. Consequently, some laboratories attempt to isolate leptophage particles from environmental samples or from bacterial cultures following mitomycin C induction. Here, we present several procedures for isolating, purifying, and characterizing bacteriophages based on the leptophages characterization protocols.
