Efficacy of transoral partial laryngectomy with zeitels and holmium laser in 42 glottic cancers.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of transoral partial laryngectomy using the suspension Zeitels laryngoscope system and holmium laser assistance (SZL-HoL) in the treatment of glottic laryngeal cancer. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 42 patients who underwent SZL-HoL and 43 patients who underwent Open Partial Laryngectomy (OPL) from January 2017 to January 2025. Patients had T1b-T2 and selected T3 glottic cancer. The study compared survival rates, intraoperative blood loss, tracheotomy rates and decannulation times, nasogastric tube placement rates and removal times, postoperative voice recovery, and hospital stay. RESULTS: Patients in the SZL-HoL group showed Table five-year overall survival compared with those in the OPL group (92.3% vs. 81.32%, P = 0.045), although disease-specific survival and local control did not reach statistical significance between the two groups. The SZL-HoL group also had better outcomes in terms of intraoperative blood loss, postoperative voice quality, duration of tracheotomy, duration of nasogastric tube placement, and length of hospital stay. CONCLUSION: SZL-HoL is an effective and safe surgical approach for the treatment of T1b-T2 and selected T3 glottic cancer, offering favorable functional outcomes with acceptable oncological safety in appropriately selected patients.
