There is substantial interest in the medial ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow. This is due to the growth of throwing-associated injuries in the past 30 years. This is, in part, due to the length of time to rehabilitate this type of injury in this athlete population. It is vital to understand how to appropriately diagnose and manage medial ulnar collateral ligament injuries in throwing athletes based on the injury severity. This manuscript will review the anatomy of the elbow, risk factors for medial ulnar collateral ligament injuries, management approaches, and future directions for prevention and treatment.
