The objective of this chapter is to discuss the critical environmental parameters that should be controlled to guarantee conditions for optimum broiler growth, welfare, and health. Environmental needs can be grouped into interconnected dimensions. These dimensions include temperature, humidity, air quality, air velocity, lighting, and space management, such as stocking density and environmental enrichment. Each dimension is discussed separately, with its interactions with other dimensions highlighted. The development of new technologies for controlling and monitoring environmental parameters will be reviewed.
