This series highlights the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of TPP as a simple, non-invasive intervention and underscores the pivotal role of paediatric dentists in the multidisciplinary management of PRS.
PURPOSE: Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) is characterised by micrognathia, glossoptosis and upper airway obstruction, often necessitating early intervention to ensure airway stability and adequate feeding. This case series highlights the role of the Tübingen Palatal Plate (TPP), a functional approach in the multidisciplinary management of infants with PRS.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective case series describes seven infants with PRS managed using the TPP within a multidisciplinary tertiary care setting. Clinical outcomes were assessed in terms of airway patency, feeding ability, growth status and caregiver-reported compliance.
RESULT: All infants demonstrated improvement in airway patency reflected by reduced dependence on adjunct airway support, along with enhanced feeding. Longitudinal assessment using WHO Weight-for-Age Z-scores (WAZ) demonstrated progressive improvement in nutritional status and satisfactory weight gain during follow-up. High caregiver compliance and satisfaction were observed, with no reported complications.
CONCLUSION: This series highlights the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of TPP as a simple, non-invasive intervention and underscores the pivotal role of paediatric dentists in the multidisciplinary management of PRS.
