Over a decade ago, Neil Smith's essay, “The Revolutionary Imperative,” argued for the need to rescue political imagination from the “neoliberal moment.” That moment has passed. What must revolt mean at a fascist moment in which many Left-leaning academics wax nostalgic about the diversity projects and green interventions of the neoliberal city? Answering that question requires strategic theorizing about what urban politics must become in the wake of Columbus.
