Effectiveness of a Nurse-led Thoracolumbar Surgery Care Package on quality of life and clinical outcomes: A randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Evidence on nurse-led perioperative interventions for patients undergoing thoracolumbar surgery remains limited. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a Nurse-Led Thoracolumbar Surgery Care Package on quality of life and clinical outcomes. METHODS: A randomised controlled trial was conducted among 100 patients undergoing thoracolumbar surgery. After informed consent was obtained, participants were allocated to an experimental group receiving the care package plus routine care or a control group receiving routine care alone. Pain, neurological status, functional independence, and quality of life were assessed. RESULTS: Back pain scores declined in both groups, with greater improvement in the experimental group. Neurological status and functional independence improved in both groups. Physical quality-of-life scores were higher in the experimental group. CONCLUSION: The Nurse-Led Thoracolumbar Surgery Care Package reduced postoperative back pain and improved physical quality of life. Structured nurse-led interventions focused on holistic care enhance postoperative recovery following thoracolumbar surgery.
