Mixed Methods Evaluation of a Trauma-informed E-learning Training for Community Youth Workers.

E-learning programs may promote learning and adoption of trauma-informed approaches. The study explored staff's learning from participating in an online trauma-informed training, using mixed methods. From a total of 457 trainees who completed the program, 90 provided complete data in the evaluation of their post-program satisfaction and pre-post changes in knowledge and attitudes, and 18 of these participants also completed 3-month follow-up assessments of their knowledge, attitudes, and use of trauma-informed practices. Interviews were conducted with four participants to elaborate on these factors as well as perceived outcomes of their training on youth. Findings indicated that staff valued the training opportunity, reported gains in relevant knowledge and attitudes, and reported successes in applying training content to practice. Findings supported the notion that trauma-informed training can be a promising way to build community program staff's capacities in trauma-informed practice and apply these philosophies and strategies in their work.
