While performance-based functional assessment is the gold standard, little is known about conducting such assessments remotely, especially with at-risk patients. This pilot study examined the feasibility and acceptability of in-home video to deliver tasks from the Performance Assessment of Self-Care Skills battery, including Oral Hygiene and Bathtub and Shower Mobility, to Persons Living with Dementia (PLWD) and caregivers. Ten PLWD-caregiver dyads enrolled, with one discontinuing prior to assessment due to unrelated illness. Feasibility and acceptability outcomes were gathered through satisfaction questionnaires and visit field notes. PLWD averaged 78.9 years (all male, White) with 7.2 health conditions; caregivers were all female, mostly spouses, averaging 69.9 years. Sessions lasted 19 to 40 min, with 22% of time spent on technology setup. Challenges included connectivity, hearing, and safety risks during transfers. Overall satisfaction was high. Performance-based day-to-day video task assessment appears feasible and acceptable, potentially improving access to care.
