This study explores the development and performance enhancement of hybrid fiber-based brake pads incorporating zeolite and molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ). Zeolite, a microporous aluminosilicate mineral, offers high thermal resistance. MoS 2 , known for its exceptional lubrication properties, reduces friction and enhances heat dissipation. The synergy of these materials in hybrid fiber-based brake pad formulations results in improved wear resistance and a consistent friction coefficient. This study used the conventional manufacturing procedure to manufacture brake friction materials as standard brake pads. Three standard brake pads were made by adjusting the weight proportion of Zeolite and MoS 2 , with all other ingredients kept constant. The produced friction materials were physically, chemically, and mechanically characterized according to industrial standards. As per the specifications laid down in IS2742-Part-4, equivalent to SAE J661, the tribological performance of the brake pads was assessed using the Chase test. Experimental results indicated that ZRBP-2 had the highest results with a performance coefficient of friction (µ) of 0.43, µ fade of 0.353, and µ recovery of 0.389. A scanning electron microscope was used to get information on the study of worn surfaces. Composite materials used in friction braking applications may benefit from a hybrid combination of MoS 2− Zeolite, enhancing performance.
