The use of self-rescue equipment is mandatory in underground mining. The supports that allow miners to carry this equipment present serious ergonomic challenges in their design. We analyzed the usability of a belt-type support model in an underground mine in Colombia using a questionnaire administered to 90 miners Overall, 63% of workers reported discomfort and poor load distribution when using the equipment. As a result, we propose a checklist to evaluate the usability of self-rescuer supports. This checklist can help mining companies select suppliers in a practical and informed manner, considering regulatory compliance, worker safety, comfort, and usability.
