Automated calibration method for blade coordinate system based on blade profile information in robotic grinding and polishing system

Aircraft engine blades have stringent surface quality requirements that traditional machining methods cannot meet. Therefore, robot grinding and polishing have become the final step in the manufacturing of aircraft engine blades. In the context of robotic blade grinding and polishing, a universal automatic calibration method is crucial. It directly improves both the accuracy of polishing and the overall level of automation. This study proposes an automatic calibration method for blade coordinate systems based on blade profile contours, using blade profile surface information for coordinate calibration, including convex and concave surfaces of blade, and conducts verification of calibration on both the convex and concave surfaces of blade. The results demonstrate that this new method not only enhances the accuracy and automation of blade coordinate system calibration but also achieves excellent calibration results for blades with different surface profiles, indicating that the method is versatile and widely applicable. This demonstrates its considerable potential for application in robot grinding and polishing.
